Today the 29th June is the death anniversary of the stunning Jayne Mansfield Jayne Mansfield was an American actress. She was also a singer and nightclub entertainer as well as one of the early Playboy Playmates. She was a major Hollywood sex symbol during the 1950s and early 1960s. She was born on 19 April 1933, and died on 29th June 1967 at a young age of 34 in a car accident. Had she been alive she would have been 88 this year! She maintained a stunning figure of 40-20-35 even after giving birth to 5 children. This is perhaps the most famous photo of Jayne Mansfield's life besides the photos of nude scenes in her film 'Promises- - Promises' which were splashed by 'Playboy'. Sophia Loren's looks say it all. A photo of rather soberly dressed up Jayne. Yes, she adorned the cover page of the then iconic 'Life' magazine Oldies will remember that the

Do you know that the Taj Mahal's is not made of solid marble, it is only covered with marble tiles. The walls of the monument are red brick. It is said that at one stage the British even toyed with the idea of dismantling the Taj and shipping the marble to England. How very horrible - the idea itself! Interesting in knowing more about it? Please read: 'The Plan to sell the Taj! https://www.livehistoryindia.com/story/snapshort-histories/the-plan-to-sell-the-taj/

'Ministry for Red Tape Reduction in Ontario, Canada' - by K J S Chatrath

We are aware and justifiably proud of how Indians settled in Canada are doing extremely well. At one stage the headline was about half a dozen persons of Indian origin beingmade Cabinet Ministers in Canada by Mr. Trudeau. There are many Indian origin Canadian members in the Parliament and in the states. This no longermakes news. But a recent development from the State of Ontario needs to be shared. A young 32 year old Mr. Prabhjeet Sarkaria was the Associate Minister of Small Business & Red Tape Reduction (emphasis & colour supplied). He has now been elevated as the President of the Tresury Board of Ontario. In his place, another Canadian of Indian origin Ms. Nina Tangri has been made the Associate Minister for Small Business & Red Tape Reduction. If my old brain remembers correctly, a few decades back, one of the States in India decided to change the colour of the tape on the cardboard on which files are placed, from the then existing red to green in order to do away

Dante Alighieri, often referred to simply as Dante, was an Italian poet, writer and philosopher. He was born in Florence, Italy and died on 14 th September 1321 at Tavenna, Italy. Source: Wikipedia His best known work is the Divine Comedy. It is a long Italian narrative poem, begun in 1308 and completed in 1320, a year before his death in 1321. It is widely considered to be the pre-eminent work in Italian literature and one of the greatest works of world literature. The poem's imaginative vision of the afterlife is representative of the medieval world view as it had developed in the Western Church by the 14th century. It helped establish the Tuscan language in which it is written, as the standardized Italian language. It is divided into three parts: Inferno , Purgatorio , and Paradiso .

'You fight & die for us, while we watch the spectacle (Tamasha)' - by K J S Chatrath

This picture post card shows the arrival of the Indian army in Marseilles, France in 1914. They were sent there to fight on behalf of the British colonial masters and to defend France. This photograph leaves an uneasy feeling in me. While Indians arrived after a long and arduous sea journey in France, they were immediately made to march through the town, presumably to shore up the sagging morale of the British and the French. But look at the crowd. French gentlemen in smart dresses and hats seemed to have come out of their houses to watch the spectacle (Tamasha) of Indian forces marching. What were they doing there when their country was under attack and they had to call the Indians to save them. Shouldnt all these French gentlemen have been at the Front line fighting for their country? Each one of them. This is my perception on seeing this picture postcard. I could be wrong. You decide for yourself. ..... DISCLAIMER: This is a not for profit blog and no infringement of copyri

Photo taken circa 1916 He amongst his brothers was the brightest in studies. Got admission in the prestigious Government College, Lahore. He did very well in studies and was also the Captain of the Govt. College Lahore's Gymnastics Team. My grand father was so pleased with his results that he bought him a new 'The Indian Chief' motor cycle, import of which to India had just started. He then completed his LL.B from Law College, Lahore. Later in life, he was awarded with a 'sanad' of "Sardar Sahib" (the same as "Rai Sahib" for Hindus and "Khan Sahib" for Muslims) by Government in 1946 The most important things that I learnt from him were complete honesty and equal application of laws and rules to all without fear or favour.
