'Cultivating dragon fruit in India - by K J S Chatrath

 

 

Dragon Fruit, also referred as Kamalam, is grown in countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, the US and Vietnam. Its production commenced in India in early 1990s. Earlier this year in July the National Conclave on Kamlam (Dragon Fruit) was organized on Jul 7, under the Chairmanship of Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture. The objective of the Dragon Fruit conclave was to give thrust to increase the area, production and productivity, marketing, branding of Kamlam (Dragon Fruit) and also to enhance the farmer's income.

In a first, India has exported the fibre and mineral-rich exotic Dragon Fruit, the government said Saturday. The first consignment was shipped to Dubai.
