'The Balkan Kaleidiscope covering 8 countries in 14 days' - by KJS Chatrath

In 2018, I undertook a road trip called ‘Balkan Kaleidoscope’ organized by Penguin Travels.  It covered  8 Balkan Countries in 14 Days, the countries being  Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro, Kosvo, Albania and Macedonia.  The trip started and ended in Sofia, Bulgaria. 

Andrey Stratiev (in a green jacket in the photo) was the handsome, soft spoken and very knowledgeable Tour Director who accompanied the tour from beginning till end. He was one of the best Tour Directors that I have travelled with.   

I may also say that we were in a small group with members from various parts of the world, with me representing 1.3 billion Indians. All the members of the Group were super friendly and helpful. Here they are:

  According to Hobson-Jobson: The Definitive Glossary of British India , the word ‘ āchār’ finds a mention in CE 1563, in works by Garcia da Orta, a Portuguese physician, describing a conserve of cashew with salt which he refers to as ‘and this they call Āchār.’ In his book A Historical Dictionary of Indian Food , the late food historian KT Achaya notes that pickles fall into the category of ‘cooking without fire’; however, many pickles today do use heating or fire to some extent during preparation. Pickles in India have a rich legacy, which is clear when the historian further adds that a ‘Kannada work of CE 1594, the Lingapurana of Gurulinga Desika describes no less than fifty kinds of pickles’! Another later mention is found in the 17th-century Śivatattvaratnākara , an encyclopedia of ancient Indian lore of Basavarāja, King of Keladi. 'Compulsory physical castration, whipping & circulation of photo of the rapist on tv/media'...suggests K J S Chatrath

  Unending news of rapes is shocking. My suggestion would be to award the following punishment to the person found guilty of rape by a court of law:   (i) Compulsory Physical castration (ii) Compulsory Whipping (iii) Circulation of the photo in media and TV of the man castrated for rape    Necessary amendments to the law could be made including (i) No adjournment to be allowed while the case is being heard and (ii) setting up of a time limit for completing the case.
