'Treat ladies with dignity' - by K J S Chatrath
Is beach Handball, one of the Games in the Olympics, a game of skill or a sport to encourage voyeurism?
The blatantly sexist rules of International Handball Federation require women to wear bikini bottoms “with a close fit and cut on an upward angle toward the top of the leg.” The sides of the bikini bottoms must be no more than four inches. Men, on the other hand, can wear shorts as long as four inches above their knees as long as they are “not too baggy.”
Bikinis are the traditional outfits of beach handball. The form
fitting uniform is said to allow increased mobility and less likely to trap
sand.
Earlier this year Norway’s beach handball players were each fined 150 euros for wearing shorts rather than the required bikini bottoms. A spokeswoman for the International Handball Federation said she didn’t know the reason for the rule!
Ladies team from Norway in the uniform which they prefer- tight fitting shorts instead of revealing bikini bottoms.
Ladies must be treated with dignity and not made to become objects of male ogling in games.
