May I add a thing or two to this?

You know what was WHO busy in April 2020 when Covid had already raised its head? It was having a detailed discussion on what should be the percentage of potassium that should be allowed in common salt. And thereafter WHO issued a detailed advisory on it.

Here is another shocker from The Hindustan Times, May 11, 2021. ‘Seychelles, which has vaccinated more of its population against Covid-19 than any other country, saw active cases more than double in the week to May 7, raising concerns that inoculation is not helping turn the tide in some places.’

And what is the advice of Kate O’Brien, the learned  director of  WHO’s department of immunization, vaccines and biologicals, who told a briefing  on Monday : “ the body (WHO) was in direct communication with Seychelles and that a detailed assessment was needed looking at factors like strains of the virus and the severity of cases.” As bureaucratic as it can get!

Now we come to today’s newspaper (The Hindustan Times). The is a sketch photo of the Director of WHO with an original and eye opening advice in a boxed item, “Public health capacities must be strengthened to prepare for the possibility of vaccine evading variants and the future emergencies”.

Yes, WHO is the shorter form of World Health Organisation - the  specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for international public health!

    Come on WHO, time to use your resources to find out why Seychelles population loosing immunity. Act now. Don't become a W.H.O. as in guess who ?

'A visit to Bonda Hills, Odisha 55 years back' - recalls K J S Chatrath

  I visited the Bonda Hills for the first time in 1968 when I was under training in the undivided Koraput district of Odisha.   There was no road and we had to climb/walk for about 19 kms. I went there again in 2001 and noted that there were improvements. Road had been built for around 10 kms and there was a Kanyashram or tribal girls hostel nearby. The Bonda people are a tribal people who currently live in the hills of Odisha’s Malkangiri district in India. There are two different Bonda tribes: the Upper Bondas with a population of 6,700 who are the most isolated from mainstream Indian society, and the Lower Bonda with a population of 17,000. Upper Bondas have almost no connection to the outside world. On both the occasions I had a meal there. They grow brown rice which is almost roundish and has a pleasant aroma.
