'Disc of Mictlantecuhtli -the Aztec God of the Dead' - by K J S Chatrath

The Aztecs were a fierce tribe of warriors who settled in the Valley of Mexico in the 13th century CE. They fought many wars with neighboring tribes until they dominated most of Middle America.

Disc of Mictlantecuhtli. Mictlāntēcutli meaning "Lord of Mictlan", in Aztec mythology  was a god of the dead and the king of Mictlan (Chicunauhmictlan), the lowest and northernmost section of the underworld.  I photographed this Disc in the Mexico Museum in 2018. More photos from this fabulous museum would follow on this blog soon.
