'Visit to Karnak, Egypt, built in 2055 BC to 100 AD' - K J S Chatrath

Image
I visited Karnak, Egypt in 2012. The Karnak Temple Complex, commonly known as Karnak, comprises a vast mix of decayed temples, pylons, chapels, and other buildings near Luxor, Egypt. Construction at the complex began during the reign of Senusret I in the Middle Kingdom and continued into the Ptolemaic Kingdom, although most of the extant buildings date from the New Kingdom.   The Karnak Temple dates back from around 2055 BC to around 100 AD. It was built as a cult temple and was dedicated to the gods Amun, Mut, and Khonsu.

'Some photos from Halebidu (12th century AD), Karnataka, India, Part-II' by K J S Chatrath

Image
Halebidu or Halebid is 210 kms kms from Bengaluru in Karanataka, India. It is 27 km away from the nearest big town- Hassan. It has magnificently carved temples Hoysalesvara and Shantalesvara. The temples at Halebidu have beautifully engraved walls. The temple complex depicts stories from Mahabharata, Ramayana and Puranas and were built in the 12 th century AD. Hoysalesvara is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Shantalesvara to Lord Shantaleswara. Halebidu literally means the old city. In the ancient times, Halebidu was known as Dwarasamudra, which means the gateway to the seas in Hassan district. It flourished as the capital of Hoysala kingdom for 150 years. I visited Halebidu in 2014 and am planning to go there again this December. Here are some of the photos that I took in 2014:
